PHILADELPHIA – After Caldwell overcame a 37-21 halftime deficit with a 6-24 third quarter to take a two-point lead into the fourth, but No. 19 HFU women's basketball responded with a 26-10 final period to defeat the Cougars 69-55 inside of the Campus Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers held Caldwell scoreless for the first 4:33 of the fourth quarter, with
Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) and
Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) combining for nine points in a 13-0 run that ended with
Amy Ngo's (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) layup extending the advantage to 56-45 with 5:50 to go.
The Cougars fought back to within six twice, including at 59-53 with 3:41 left, but Searfoss closed the door with eight points over the final 2:57.
Individual Highlights
- Searfoss led all players with a season-best 22 points, on 7-of-8 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws, and a career-high seven assists, while adding seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks
- Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) had 17 points and game-highs of 11 boards and a career-best five steals for her eighth double-double of the season
- Prevost finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and a game-high three blocks
- Ngo was also in double-figures with 11 points
