No. 19 Women’s Basketball Pulls Away from Georgian Court for 67-47 Win

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Tied at 39 late in the third quarter, the No. 19 HFU women's basketball team used a 16-2 run over the end of the period and the beginning of the fourth to pull away for a 67-47 win at Georgian Court on Tuesday night.

Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) sparked the strong end to the third with six points over the last 1:46 to help establish a 48-40 advantage entering the fourth.

She then began the fourth scoring to establish a double-digit lead for good, before a Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) 3-pointer and Amy Ngo (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) layup completed the surge that would ignite a 19-7 final quarter.

Individual Highlights
  • Prevost led Holy Family with a season-best 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and two steals
  • Ngo and Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) were also in double-figures with 10 points apiece
    • Searfoss added a game and career-high 11 rebounds for her fourth career double-double, while Ngo led all players with four assists and two steals

How it Happened
  • Trailing 6-13 in the final minutes of the first period, back-to-back baskets by Lola Ibarrondo (Bristol, Pa./Neshaminy) sparked 11 unanswered that put HFU ahead for the first time on a Prevost layup 21 seconds into the second

  • The Lions cut the deficit to two twice, including at 19-17, but Searfoss and Lauren Palangio (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) scored all 10 points in a 10-2 flurry that produced the first double-digit advantage, 29-19, on Palangio's 2:27 ahead of the half
  • An Ngo free throw made it 33-23 entering the locker room, but GCU began the third on a 6-16 run to tie the score at 39 with 2:43 left in the third
