Dominant Second Quarter Lifts No. 21 Women’s Basketball Past Bloomfield

PHILADELPHIA – Tied at 14 following 10 minutes of play, the No. 21 HFU women's basketball team used a 27-5 second quarter to take control in an eventual 77-50 win at Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon. 
 
After the first period was played within one possession, the Tigers scored the first 11 points of the second, the first four of which came from Lauren Palangio (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin)
 
Lola Ibarrondo's (Bristol, Pa./Neshaminy) two free throws with 5:22 on the clock put HFU ahead by double-digits for good, and after a Bloomfield three-point play 45 seconds later, the Tigers would tally the final 12 points of the half, again beginning with four in a row from Palangio. 
 
Following back-to-back baskets by Ibarrondo, Amy Ngo (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) closed out the dominant quarter with a jumper for a 41-19 cushion entering the locker room. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Ibarrondo led all players with a season-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added six rebounds and a season-best four assists
  • Palangio fell one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double as she finished with 10 points on 5-of-6 field goals, a team-high nine boards and a game-high three blocks
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) was also in double-figures with 13 points, to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, a team-high three steals and two blocks
  • Ngo also had three steals and led all players five assists, both of which were season-bests
  • Ngo, Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) and Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) all finished with nine points

  • Holy Family limited the Bears to just 27.9 percent shooting (19-of-68) and won the rebounding 43-31, leading to a 16-6 edge in second chance points
