CALDWELL, N.J. –
Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) headed home an
Allison Loper's (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) corner kick eight a half minutes prior to the final whistle, but the HFU women's soccer could not complete the comeback in a 1-2 loss at Caldwell on Saturday.
A
Maddie Maguire (Sewell, N.J./Nazareth Academy (Rider)) shot that missed high in the 86th was the only attempt the Tigers could pressure with down the stretch.
The assist was Loper's team-leading third assist of the season, while Hooten's goal was her first of the year.
Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) saved the first three shots she faced, but after the third a rebound was tapped in, giving the Cougars an early lead eight and a half minutes in.
Lexi Murphy (Woolwich Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional (Saint Francis U)) worked the keeper twice in the first half as HFU put three of their four attempts on frame, while limiting Caldwell with another shot on target the remainder of the period.
Both teams threatened in the 58th minute, as Murphy was denied again, and Preuhs made four stops in a nine and a half minute stretch before Loper then had another attempt saved in the 78th.
The Cougars would however make it 2-0 1:20 later.
