ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. –
Ever Maradiaga's (Edgewater Park, N.J./Life Center Academy) 33rd minute tap-in turned out to be the only goal in the HFU men's soccer team's first win of the season at Molloy on Tuesday night.
Tajhay Williams (Yallahs, Jamaica/Clarendon College) found
Georgios Kazantzioglou (Athens, Greece/The Phelps School) on the right side of the box, and the goalkeeper could not handle his shot as it deflected right to Maradiaga for his first career goal.
Luke Shank (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and the defense took over from there, keeping nine Molloy attempts on net out of the goal, including five in a 3:15 stretch between the 70th and 73rd minutes, the final of which was a second goal-line clearance of the match.
That was the final shot of the night for Molloy.
Shank's seven saves tied a career-high, while his fifth career shutout moved him into a tie for 10th in program history.
Sergio Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain/IES Las Musas),
Aristide Sanon (Paris, France/Max Linder),
Kevin Duffy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and
Jarrett Lalli (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) played in the back four, with
Deshawn Bernard (Portmore, Jamaica/Wolmer's Boys School) and
Conor Seeley (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) protecting them in the midfield.
Kazantzioglou led all players with five shots and three attempts on net, while Williams,
Sergio Revuelta (Valladolid, Spain/IES Alejandria) and
Lucca Saad (São Paulo, Brazil/The Phelps School) also shot on frame.
