NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Holy Family University baseball team used an eight-run seventh to defeat Wilmington 10-4 in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Wildcats came back to take the nightcap via ninth-inning walk-off in a game scheduled for seven innings.
Individual Highlights
- Christian Culver (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman (Bucks County CC)) earned a win in his fourth consecutive appearance, recording a quality start as he allowed just one earned on four hits over six innings
- Gino Serechia (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton (Shepherd University)) reached base in five of his six at-bats over the doubleheader as he went 3-for-4 with two walks and a run
- Zach Morales (Barrington, N.J./Triton Regional (PSU-Abington)) had two hits in both games, finishing 4-for-9 with a double, two RBI and a run
- Game two starter Casey Murphy (Merion Station, Pa./Lower Merion (Ursinus College)) limited Wilmington to one run on five hits over eight innings, as he struck out eight against two base on balls
How it Happened
First Game
- Trailing 1-4, Holy Family sent 12 to the plate in the seven-run seventh
- Emidio Bucci (Gambrills, Md./Loyola Blakefield (York College)) led off with a double and following the first out, back-to-back base on balls by Serechia and Brian Comer (Charlotte, N.C./Independence (Bucks County CC)) loaded the bases
- Three straight RBI singles by Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)), Jon Martinez (Camden, N.J./Timber Creek Regional (Camden CC)) and Morales then tied the score
- Alex Camilo's (Cambridge, Ontario/Monsignor Doyle (Alliance University)) RBI fielder's choice turned out to be the game-winner, before Stefan Leo (Golden, Colo./Golden Senior (Porterville CC)) added yet another RBI single
- Bucci reached yet again as he was hit by a pitch and after a two-run error extended the inning, Serechia capped the frame with an RBI single
Second Game
- Morales' leadoff double in the second led to the game's opening run following a Leo groundout and Bucci sacrifice fly
- A two-out triple tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth
- Holy Family had a runner advanc into scoring position in the fifth and sixth before threatening further in the eighth as Comer stole third with one out
- The Tigers could not drive him in though, and Murphy had to work around a leadoff single in the bottom-half to send the game to the ninth
- A leadoff error led to the winning run following a stolen base, two intentional walks and a game-winning single
