Hagy’s Late Home Run Gives Softball Game One; HFU Wins Nightcap 14-1 in Sweep at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA – Lauren Hagy's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) three-run home run capped a four-run seventh that erased a 3-4 deficit in the opener, and HFU softball broke out for 16 hits in a 14-1 nightcap in the Tigers' sweep at Jefferson on Sunday afternoon.

Individual Highlights
  • Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) and Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) had multiple hits in both games
    • Letizia finished 5-for-8 with a double, four runs and three RBI
    • Ciasullo went 4-for-7 with eight RBI and two home runs, both of which came in game two
      • She is now fifth in program history with 18 career homers
  • Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) joined Letizia in recording three base knocks in the nightcap
    • Tidaback also picked up her first win of the season as she surrendered just one run on three hits in a complete game effort
    • The three-hit effort was the first of Hoban's career
  • Game one starter Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) earned a win for the second day in a row, allowing just two earned
    • She is now 10th in program history with 13 career wins
  • Hagy and Jaden Kelly (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) joined Letizia and Ciasullo in recording multiple base knocks in the opener, with Hagy driving in a career-high four and Kelly scoring twice
  • Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) finished a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs and two RBI in game two
  • Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scored twice in both games, adding two stolen bases in the nightcap to move into a tie for sixth in program history with 17 for her career

How it Happened
First Game
  • Three straight seventh inning singles by Kelly, Letizia and Ciasullo tied the score at 4-4, before Hagy came through with her homer
  • Both teams plated two in the first, as four of the first five Tigers reached
    • Hobel led off with a walk and after back-to-back singles by Kelly and Letizia, Ciasullo's sacrifice fly opened the scoring
    • Hagy then made it 2-0 with another single
  • Jefferson took advantage of an error to plate one unearned in the bottom-half, but Patterson was able to strand the bases loaded
  • The Rams took their first lead on a two-out triple in the second
  • HFU left runners in scoring position in the second and fourth, but the Tigers were able to cash in on an error themselves as Ciasullo's two-out single knotted things up at 3-3 in the fifth
  • After Holy Family stranded two in the sixth, Jefferson went ahead once more, 3-4, with yet another unearned run in the bottom-half
  • The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Patterson was able to induce a game-ending flyout
Second Game
  • Holy Family scored in each of its first four at-bats, highlighted by a six run sixth
