Bridgeport Take Control After Back-and-Forth Start with Women’s Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA – After alternating the first six scores, Bridgeport closed the second quarter on a 2-5 run to take control in an eventual 8-13 win over HFU women's lacrosse at Tiger Field on Saturday. 

Holy Family cut the deficit to 4-5 when Paige Affet (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower Catholic) found the net with 7:02 left in the first half, but the Purple Knights tallied three of the final four goals of second for a 5-8 advantage at the break. 
 
The Tigers again got within one, 7-8, on back-to-back scores by Rianna Shields (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) in the first 2:25 out of the half, but this time UB took control with four in a row over the end of the third and beginning of the fourth. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Payton Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) caused a turnover to set the program's single-season record with 34
  • Ava Morrow led all players with six ground balls and four caused turnovers, while making 10 saves, in her collegiate debut
  • Tori Wolstenholme (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) had three more draw controls than any other player as she tied a season-best with nine, and she was second on HFU with five ground balls
  • Shields had a team-high three goals and Taina Harkins (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) added two, with each finishing second on the Tigers with three caused turnovers apiece
    • Shields is now sixth in program history with 175 career points 
  • Maura Kilkenny (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower Catholic) was second on Holy Family with five draw controls
  • Emma Clayborne (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) notably recorded the first assist of her career
