Softball Picks Up First Win with Game Two Triumph Over 2023 NCAA Tournament Participant Franklin Pierce

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Holy Family University softball team picked up its first victory of 2024, defeating 2023 NCAA Tournament participant Franklin Pierce 4-2 in the second game of its penultimate day down in Florida.

The Tigers had fallen to Walsh, 1-9, earlier in the morning.

Franklin Pierce
Alexis Letizia's (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) single broke a 1-1 deadlock in the top fifth, and Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) would add the game-winning RBI later in the frame before driving in another in the seventh.

Freshman Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River (Mount Olive)) earned her first career win with her first complete game performance, scattering six hits over seven innings with six strikeouts and one walk.

Letizia tied a career-high with three hits.

Back-to-back singles by Jaden Kelly (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Gabrielle Wiley (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) led to Rylee Hobel's (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) sacrifice fly opening the scoring in the third.

It was a Hobel sacrifice bunt that then set the stage for singles by Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) and Letizia, and a fielder's choice by Ciasullo, to make it 3-1 in the fifth.

Grubb reached three times as she also walked twice.

Hall worked around the first three batters reaching in the bottom-half to keep the lead at 3-2. She later stranded a runner at second in the seventh.

Walsh
Walsh plated five in the first, four of which were unearned, and led throughout.

Hobel drove in Holy Family's lone run with a single in the third, and she also drew a base on balls.
