PHILADELPHIA – The HFU men's lacrosse team nearly erased a 2-9 halftime deficit, as it had a shot saved in the final seconds of a 12-13 loss at District of Columbia on Friday evening.
A run of four straight goals by
Adam Camille (Providence, R.I./La Salle Academy) and
James Bienia (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) in just 3:16 made it 11-12 with 3:52 to play.
The Firebirds momentarily re-establish a two-goal cushion with 33 seconds on the clock, but it took the Tigers just five seconds to respond as Camille set up
Julian Definis (Glendora, N.J./Triton Regional).
Trey Rorer (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast (Immaculata)) won the final faceoff, leading to one final attempt, but Camille was denied just seven seconds before the final buzzer.
Individual Highlights
- Camille led all players with eight points and five and added a team-high three assists, all of which were a new season-bests
- Bienia also netted a hat trick, his third of the season
- Rorer won 15-of-20 faceoffs and added a team-high nine ground balls, both of which were season-bests
- Braden Kaukeano (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton Regional) paced Holy Family with a season-high four caused turnovers, while matching Camille with five ground balls
- Maxx Covely (Somerdale, N.J./Highland) was second on the Tigers with a season-best seven ground balls, while Ethan Oase (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) was second with a season-best two caused turnovers
- Bryce Thomas (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) made 12 saves

- The comeback began with the first three scores of a 5-1 third quarter, the first of which was netted by Camille just four seconds into the period
- Brent McColligan (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton Regional) made it 7-10, with an assist from Timmy Tran (Philadelphia, Pa./Harry S. Truman), entering the fourth quarter, but the Firebirds tallied the first two goals of the fourth
- Camille began the fourth quarter surge with an unassisted score at the 7:08 mark
