PHILADELPHIA –
Christian Culver (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman (Bucks County CC)) earned a complete game win in his first start of the season, and HFU baseball scored five in its first two at-bats en route to a 7-5 game two victory over Caldwell at Father Judge High School on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars had previously jumped on the Tigers early in their 5-10 game one win.
Individual Highlights
- Culver scattered eight hits over his seven innings, striking out three and walking one
- Isaac Criss (Grove City, Pa./Grove City (Bucks County CC)) reached base multiple times in both games, finishing the doubleheader 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBI, three runs, three stolen bases and a hit-by-pitch
- Zach Morales (Barrington, N.J./Triton Regional (PSU-Abington)) joined Criss in driving in two in the nightcap as he homered, while Emidio Bucci (Gambrills, Md./Loyola Blakefield (York College)) drove in multiple runs in the opener
- Dalton Turner (Langorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Bucks County CC)) homered in game one
How it Happened
Second Game
- Criss got a three-run first started with a one-out single and after stolen base, Jon Martinez (Camden, N.J./Timber Creek Regional (Camden CC)) walk and error brought him home, Morales' home run quickly made it 3-0
- Holy Family answered Caldwell's two-run second with two of its own as Turner led off with a single
- Following two outs, a Brian Comer (Charlotte, N.C./Independence (Bucks County CC)) single kept the frame alive for Criss, who came through with a two-RBI single
- The Cougars got as close as 5-4 with one run in both the third and fourth, but a two-run HFU fourth made it a multi-run advantage for good
- Turner and Chris Serrano (Kissimmee, Fla./Elevation Prep (St. Petersburg College)) led off with hit-by-pitches and after a Gino Serechia (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton (Shepherd University)) sacrifice bunt, Comer's sacrifice fly plated the eventual winning run
- The Tigers then added insurance on an error
First Game
- Holy Family recovered from 0-3 and 1-4 deficits to tie the score at 5-5 in the third, but the Tigers could never take the lead as Caldwell scored in the first four innings and six of its seven at-bats
- Criss' and Turner's home runs cut the deficit to 1-3 in the first and 3-4 in the second, respectively, and Criss' leadoff hit-by-pitch led to HFU tying it in the third
- A Dylan Mercedes (Washington Heights, N.Y./St. Raymonds (Mansfield University)) single drove in Criss after he stole second, before three consecutive walks by Morales, Stefan Leo (Golden, Colo./Golden Senior (Porterville CC)) and Bucci made it 5-5
- A double-play ended that threat though, and the Cougars immediately answered with a three-run fourth
