With tomorrow's doubleheader against Franklin Pierce postponed due to the impending inclement weather, HFU next takes the field for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Jefferson on Wednesday.
Individual Highlights
- Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) reached base three times in the opener, as she went 2-for-3 with a triple, walk and three runs
- Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) also had multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a run and RBI
- Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) finished 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI in the nightcap
How it Happened
First Game
- After both teams plated once in the first, UB took the lead for good with a three-run second
- The Purple Knights were up by as many as 3-7 following a two-run seventh, but HFU threatened beginning with Hobel's leadoff base on balls
- Letizia singled with one out and after Lauren' Hagy's RBI groundout, Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) kept the game going with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-7
- Carlie Miller's (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) walk put the tying run on first, but the Purple Knights were able to end the threat there
Second Game
- Starter Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) kept UB at bay for the first three frames, but the Purple Knights broke out for four in the fourth
- Holy Family had an immediate response as Hoban began the bottom-half with her double, before RBI singles by Letizia and Hagy cut the deficit in half
- The Tigers then made it a one-run game when Miller led off the fifth with a single, stole second, and came home on a Hoban single
- Bridgeport re-established a multi-run advantage in the sixth, but again HFU got the leadoff batter on in the seventh as this time it was Molly Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) singling
- Another single by Ciasullo brough the go-ahead run to the plate, but this time it was a double play ending the contest
