DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Trailing by seven entering the final minute, the HFU men's basketball team made a late push to within one in the final seconds, only to fall just short, 79-82, at Mercy on Wednesday night.
Down 73-80, a
Tairi Ketner (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) layup and
CJ Mundell (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) steal and dunk cut the deficit to a single possession for the time since early in the second half with 40 seconds remaining.
Holy Family got a stop and committed a turnover, but a missed Mavericks free throw opened the door for two Mundell foul shots to cut the deficit to one with four seconds to go.
Mercy would then make two free throws of its own, before a Tigers 3-pointer missed at the buzzer.

- Mundell led all players with season-highs of 34 points on 12-of-18 shooting and 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double
- The point total was nearly triple his previous high of 12, set last night at Temple, and the freshman also topped HFU with three steals
- Josiah King (Irvington, N.J./Linden) had three steals as well, to go along with a season-high point total, 10, of his own
- Ketner was second on the Tigers with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting and seven boards
