PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team had a shot at the buzzer to tie miss in a 53-55 loss to defending East Region champion Daemen inside of the Campus Center on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 40-46 after the Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers,
Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) scored the final four points of eight unanswered to put the Tigers ahead 48-46 with 6:35 to go.
The two teams then exchanged two ties and lead changes down the stretch, with
Jessica Riepe's (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) two free throws giving HFU a 53-52 edge with 2:13 to play.
Daemen would close with the final three points though, beginning with a jumper 15 seconds later before a foul shot for the two-point cushion with four seconds on the clock.
Individual Highlights
- Riepe finished with 11 points, including making three 3-pointers to move into fifth in program history with 153 for her career
- Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was the lone other Tiger in double-figures with a team-high 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting and 5-of-5 free throws
- Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led all players with 16 rebounds, to go along with eight points
- Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) fell one board shy of double-digits, while Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) had a team-high four assists and two steals

How it Happened
- Eight unanswered, capped by a Hinkle jumper with 1:01 left in the first, established a game -high 20-12 lead, but Daemen closed the quarter with final seven points
- The entirety of a low-scoring second was played within a single possession, until Meredith sank three free throws with 1:03 showing for a 29-25 halftime advantage
- Riepe began the third period with a 3-pointer for a 32-25 cushion, but Daemen battled back to tie it at 34 with a 2-9 flurry
- Holy Family established its final two-possession advantage, 38-34, with the next four points as Riepe hit another triple and Lola Ibarrondo (Bristol, Pa./Neshaminy) made a free throw with 2:47 on the clock, but the Wildcats tallied six of the final eight points for a 40-40 score-line entering the fourth
- Daemen then began the final quarter with the back-to-back 3-pointers for its largest lead
