Women’s Basketball Leads Wire-to-Wire in Season-Opening 20-Point Win Over UDC

STATEN ISLAND – The Holy Family University basketball team led wire-to-wire in its season-opening 71-51 win over District of Columbia at College of Staten Island on Friday night. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • All 11 Tigers that played scored, led by Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) (11 points) and Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) (10) finishing in double-figures
    • Searfoss led all players with three steals and matched Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) with a team-high three assists
      • Prevost added a game-high two shots
  • Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) matched a game-high with seven rebounds and added seven points
  • Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) made her HFU debut, registering with nine points, six rebounds and two steals
  • Lauren Palangio (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) contributed five points, two rebounds and two assists in her collegiate debut, while fellow debutants Lola Ibarrondo (Bristol, Pa./Neshaminy) and Amy Ngo (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) both scored three points
 
Inside the Box Score
  • HFU limited UDC to 28.6 percent shooting (18-of-63), including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from 3-point range, and the Tigers' bench nearly doubled up the Firebirds' bench in scoring (28-15)
 
How it Happened
  • There was just one tie, at 2-2, with that being broken on Carter's three-point play 1:45 in
  • Holy Family held UDC to just two points over the first 3:50 and four over the first 5:21 as it built a 19-13 advantage following 10 minutes of play
  • Carter had five points in the first minute of the second quarter to establish a double-digit lead, 25-15, for good
  • Meredith scored the Tigers' final four points of the half for a 40-21 score-line entering the locker room
