Women’s Basketball Suffers First Defeat at Bloomsburg

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season, 48-57, at Bloomsburg on Tuesday evening.

Trailing by eight early in the third quarter, 29-37, HFU tied it up for the first time since the first period when Lola Ibarrondo's (Bristol, Pa./Neshaminy) put-back made it 39-39 with 4:09 left in the period.

The Huskies closed the stanza with six of the final seven points though, taking a 40-45 lead into the fourth, and the Tigers could never get closer down the stretch.

After a Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) jumper cut the deficit to five, 42-47, one final time with 8:21 to play, BU put the game away with six unanswered over the next five and a half minutes.

Individual Highlights
  • Searfoss led all players with 15 points and four assists and added eight rebounds, shy only of Taylor Hinkle's (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) game-high 10
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) was also in double-figures with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and she was second on HFU with three assists

Inside the Box Score
  • Holy Family won the rebounding battle 41-32, but Bloomsburg held the Tigers to 32.8 percent shooting (20-of-61) and held edges in bench points (9-27), fastbreak points (2-11) and points off turnovers (7-14)

How it Happened
  • In a first quarter with four lead changes and three ties, HFU took its final lead, 12-10, on a Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) layup with 2:17 left in the period
  • Bloomsburg would respond with the final seven points of the quarter and would remain on top until Ibarrondo's put-back
  • The Tigers got as close as three four times in the second, including at 27-30 on an Ibarrondo put-back 1:54 ahead of the break, but again the Huskies closed strong with five of the final seven points for a 29-35 halftime cushion
