ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The HFU women's soccer team clinched a 26th consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament berth as it scored twice in the first 9:45 en route to a 2-1 win at Dominican on Saturday afternoon.
The streak extends back to the Tigers' first year in the league in 1999.
Allison Loper (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) opened the scoring just 6:36 in when she got on the end of a cross from
Brynn Hess (Benton, Pa./Benton), who beat multiple defenders to the right endline before sending the ball into the Loper at the near post.
Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) then doubled the advantage from a set piece routine less than two minutes after
Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made her first save.
Rebecca Casper (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) rolled the ball into her on the ground and after her initial attempt was stopped, she pounced on the rebound to make it 2-0.
Loper now leads HFU with six goals on the year, while Hooten is second with three. Hess' assist was her second of the season.
Dominican pulled one back with 2:57 remaining, but Preuhs made her eighth and final save one minute later to preserve the victory. Seven of those saves came after the Tigers made it 2-0, including two 43 seconds apart in the 68th and 69th minutes.
