PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University men's basketball team closed the first half with a 12-2 run to take control of an eventual 76-67 win at Molloy on Saturday afternoon.
Najee Coursey's (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) layup to make the score 20-19 gave HFU the lead for good, and five different Tigers scored in the stretch that ended with
Ryan Holmes' (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter School) 3-pointer establishing the first double-digit advantage, 30-20, an even minute ahead of the break.
The Lions did get as closed as 41-36 5:36 into the second half, but
Jason Shields (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) netted four of the six unanswered that followed, and the Lions never again made it a two-possession game again.
Individual Highlights
- Holmes led Holy Family with six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while adding eight points
- RJ Delahaye (Newburgh, N.Y./The Storm King School) matched Holmes with six boards and three dimes
- Tairi Ketner (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) made 9-of-10 field goals en route to a team-high 19 points, and he blocked a game-high two shots
- Shields (6-of-6 free throws) and Karrington Wallace (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) were also in double figures with 10 points apiece
- Coursey (nine points) and Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep) (seven) both had five rebounds and two steals
