SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – New Haven made two free throws with five seconds remaining to defeat the Holy Family University men's basketball team, 55-56, on Sunday afternoon.
HFU led by seven, 49-42, when
Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) made a 3-pointer with 7:55 remaining and later by three, 55-52, on
Tairi Ketner's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) dunk with 2:30 left, but the Tigers did not score again as the Chargers closed on a 0-4 run.
They first made a tip-in with 55 seconds showing, and after the two foul shots, HFU missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer.

- Ketner led the Tigers with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting
- RJ Delahaye (Newburgh, N.Y./The Storm King School) added nine points and a team-high six rebounds

- Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) totaled seven points in a 13-4 surge though, lifting the Tigers to a 27-23 halftime advantage
- The lead reached as large as eight, 31-23, on back-to-back baskets by Ketner, the second coming 1:10 out of the locker room
- New Haven also went up three, 34-37, when it completed a 3-14 flurry with 13:44 to play
- Holy Family responded with eight unanswered and after one final tie at 42-42, Delahaye scored four straight prior to Johnson's 3-pointer
