PHILADELPHIA –
Gavin Rowan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) opened the scoring from outside the box in the 22nd minute, but Bridgeport responded with goals on either side of halftime to defeat the HFU men's soccer team, 1-2, on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Anthony Ciceron-Elie (Montreal, Canada/) found Rowan just outside the top left of the 18, and he turned past a defender before firing into the bottom left corner put HFU ahead 1-0.
It took Bridgeport just over nine minute to equalize though, and the Purple Knights came through with the eventual game-winner just 47 seconds out of the halftime break.
Holy Family pushed for an equalizer of its own, outshooting UB 14-5 the remainder of the way, but it never came.
The Tigers had numerous chances, including firing off seven attempts over the course of 53 seconds in the 85th and 86th minutes that ended with back-to-back saves on
Sergio Revuelta (Valladolid, Spain/IES Alejandria).
Reveutla led all players with five shots, while
Ned Lewis (London, England/Hayesbrook),
Ever Maradiaga (Edgewater Park, N.J./Life Center Academy) and
Kevin Castro (Bensalem, Pa./Father Judge) were also denied by the Purple Knights' keeper in the match.
Luke Shank (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) made five saves Holy Family.
Rowan's goal was his first of the season, while Ciceron-Elie's assist was the first of his Tigers career.
