PHILADELPHIA – After two Wilmington goals in the opening 10:06, the HFU women's soccer team pulled one back 2:12 into the second, only for the Wildcats to come away with a 1-3 win on Tuesday night at Tiger Field.
Holy Family's goal came from a tremendous run into the box by
Lexi Murphy (Woolwich Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional (Saint Francis U)), who then slid it across the box to
Allison Loper (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) for a one-timer from around the penalty spot.
Carly Fox (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy (Penn State Berks)) had a chance to equalize just over five minutes later but was denied, and the Wildcats made it 1-3 in the 65th.
Rylee Kaufmann (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) set up Murphy's run for her first career assist.
It was the first goal and assist of the season for Loper and Murphy, respectively.
Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made five saves in net.
Wilmington scored on their first two shots on target, including the first attempt of the match 1:48 in, before making it 0-2 moments after
Maddie Maguire (Sewell, N.J./Nazareth Academy (Rider)) had a shot stopped in the seventh minute.
Holy Family's best opportunity to equalize in the first half came when Loper and
Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) had shots saved 35 seconds apart in the 27th and 28th minutes.
