Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Forces Overtime; Tigers’ 13-Game Win-Streak Snapped at Fellow CACC Unbeaten Post

WATERBURY, Conn. – The HFU women's basketball team made four free throws in the final 12 seconds to send the game to overtime, where Post would ultimately prevail 68-72 in a matchup of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) unbeatens on Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family appeared to take control when a Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) triple completed seven unanswered for a 60-53 cushion with 5:01 to play, but the Tigers did not score again until the four foul shots.

The Eagles went ahead 60-61 on a 3-pointer with 2:11 left, and a free throw with an even 30 seconds on the clock made it 60-64.

It was Hinkle making the first two foul shots at the 12-second mark after a Carly Bolivar (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka (Alliance)) offensive rebound, before HFU forced a turnover and Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) was fouled en route to the tying free throws with just seven seconds to go.

Overtime was played within a single possession until the final 11 seconds, with Tretter knotting it up at 68 on a triple with 2:13 remaining.

The Tigers would not score again though, as two Post free throws 11 seconds later turned out to be the game-winner.

The Eagles added foul shots at the 28-second and 11-second marks, as HFU had three opportunities to tie the score or take the lead.

Individual Highlights
  • Hinkle led all players with 10 rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench, while Bolivar tied a game-high with three steals
    • The two added eight and seven points, respectively
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) fell one point shy of a game-high with a new season-best of 15
  • Tretter was right behind her with 14 points, also a new season-best, and she led all players with a season-high four assists
  • Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) fell one point shy of making it three Tigers in double-figures as she made 4-of-6 field goals
  • Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) contributed seven points, while Morrow had six

Inside the Box Score
  • HFU outrebounded Post 60-43, the Tigers' second straight game with at least 60 boards, but the Tigers were undone by 23 turnovers, which led to a 6-33 edge in points off turnovers for the Eagles

How it Happened
First Quarter
  • Holy Family began the contest with the seven unanswered, including back-to-back buckets by Bolivar, as the Tigers held Post scoreless for the first 3:16
  • Tretter then hit a second 3-pointer, before Prevost completed a 12-3 opening run with a jumper 4:33 into the action
  • A Meredith triple produced the first double-digit advantage, 17-7, with 2:55 showing, and after five straight Eagles points Bolivar beat the buzzer for a 19-12 cushion following 10 minutes of play
Second Quarter
  • Post began the second with a 2-10 surge though, taking its first lead midway through the second

  • The Eagles were still up by six three minutes in, before a Kokolus three-point play sparked seven unanswered to put HFU back on top 42-41 on a Merdith layup with 5:48 showing
  • The remainder of the period stayed within two points with four lead changes and two ties, with a Post foul shot making it a one-point game, 49-48, entering the fourth
