Dominant Defense Leads Women’s Basketball Past Bridgeport, 68-31, on Alumni Day

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team held Bridgeport for 11:06 in a 10-point first half en route to defeating the Purple Knights 68-31 on Saturday afternoon in the Campus Center. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led all players with a season-best 18 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double in four games
  • Carly Bolivar (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka (Alliance)) tallied game-highs of seven assists and three steals
  • Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) and Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) were both in double-figures with 12 points apiece
  • Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) produced the game's second-highest total with a season-best boards
  • Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) added eight points and seven boards
 
Inside the Box Score
  • The 31 points were the fewest by a Tigers' opponent since Concordia scored 29 on Feb. 15, 2014
  • Bridgeport's 19.3 shooting percentage is also the lowest by an HFU opponent since the Clippers shot 16.2 percent that day
 
How it Happened
  • Holy Family trailed for just 15 seconds after UB opened the scoring, as it took the lead for good on a Meredith 3-pointer 1:51 into the action 
  • That was part of an 11-0 run that ended on a Bolivar free throw with 5:34 showing on the first quarter clock
  • The Tigers went up double-digits for good, 16-6, on two Bolivar foul shots with 2:09 showing in the first, before Hinkle closed the opening stanza with back-to-back baskets for a 20-6 cushion after 10 minutes of play
  • Holy Family then held the Purple Knights scoreless for the 8:17 on the second, rounding out the 11:06 in which the Tigers outscored UB 26-0
  • Hinkle had 12 points in the stretch, including the final bucket for a 40-6 advantage 1:56 ahead of the break
  • Bridgeport tallied the final four points of the half to make it 40-10 entering the locker room
