Women’s Basketball Cannot Overcome Nationally-Ranked Jefferson’s Fast Start

PHILADELPHIA – No. 6 Jefferson used a 6-20 first quarter to defeat the HFU women's basketball team 45-65 on Tuesday evening.

The two teams were separated by just six points, 39-45, the reminder of the contest.

Individual Highlights
  • Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) produced the game's second highest point total, 14, making 4-of-6 3-pointers to move into 10th in program history with 105 for her career
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) narrowly missed double-doubles
    • Hinkle fell two points shy of her third in a row as her 10 rebounds were one shy of a game-high
    • Morrow finished with nine points and nine boards
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) led all players with two blocks, while adding seven points

How it Happened

Second Quarter
  • The two teams traded points, with a Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) layup cutting the deficit to 17-25 4:23 ahead of the half, until the Rams tallied seven in a row for a first-half-high 17-32 advantage entering the final minute
  • Carly Bolivar (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka (Alliance)) would beat the halftime buzzer for a 19-32 score-line
Second Half
  • HFU got within 13 again, 29-42, when a Hinkle layup at the 3:15 mark of the third quarter completed an 8-0 flurry that began with back-to-back Riepe triples, but the Tigers could get no closer
