WASHINGTON D.C. – A four-point game entering the fourth quarter, 43-47, UDC opened the final period on an 0-9 run to pull away from HFU women's basketball in a 57-69 win over the Tigers on Wednesday evening.
Individual Highlights
- Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led all players with 11 rebounds, adding a team-high 15 points for her seventh double-double of the season
- Carly Bolivar (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka (Alliance)) and Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) tied a game-high with five assists apiece, a career-best for the latter who added 12 points
- Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) made it three Tigers in double-figures with 11 points, to go along with eight boards and a game-high two blocks
- Bolivar contributed seven points, while Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added six
How it Happened
First Quarter
- Two Prevost free throws to make the score 16-11 produced the game's first multiple-possession advantage, 16-11, with 4:22 left in the first
- After six straight UDC points, another Prevost foul shot tied the score at 17-17 following 10 minutes of play
Second Quarter
- HFU tallied the first four and five of the first seven points of the second, going ahead 22-19 on a Bolivar free throw three and a half minutes in, but the Firebirds closed the half on a 2-12 run to take a 24-32 lead into the locker room
Third Quarter
- District of Columbia led by a 10 twice in the third, including at 26-36 1:22 in, but an 11-2 surge that included triples by Hinkle and Morrow got the Tigers within 37-38 on a Prevost foul shot at the 4:20 mark
- The Firebirds pushed the cushion back to multiple possessions with five unanswered and after a Meredith 3-pointer cut the deficit to 43-45 in the final 25 seconds, UDC beat the buzzer for a 43-47 score-line entering the fourth
Fourth Quarter
- District of Columbia carried momentum into the fourth with the opening 0-9 flurry that put the game away, as HFU could only get as close as seven down the stretch
