GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The HFU volleyball team played its first road match of 2023 at Adelphi on Wednesday, falling to the Panthers – a 2022 NCAA Tournament participant - in three sets (20-25, 17-25, 21-25).
Individual Highlights
- Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) was the lone student-athlete with double-digit kills, and she led the Tigers with two blocks
- Keira Rogan (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led all players with two aces
- Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) produced a team-high 12 digs, the match's second highest total
- Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) added seven kills and seven digs
- Morgan Steck (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) (11) and Kyla Sayson (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Institute of Technology) (10) both had double-digit assists
How it Happened
First Set
- Trailing by five six separate times, HFU pulled within two thrice late, including at 19-21, but Adelphi closed the set on a 1-5 run
Second Set
- The Panthers broke an early 6-6 tie with seven unanswered to take control
Third Set
- The Tigers attempted to stave off a sweep with 7-3 surge that got them as close as 21-22 on a Kinzer kill, but AU would score the final three points of the match
