Hooten Opens Scoring; 2022 NCAA Tournament Participant Adelphi Comes Back in Second Half for 1-2 Win Over Women’s Soccer

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Two Adelphi goals just over six minutes apart early in the second overcame Alyssa Hooten's (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) first half strike, lifting the Panthers to a 2-1 win over HFU women's soccer on Wednesday evening.

A Maura Kilkenny (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower) tackle led to the ball falling to Hooten's feet in the 15th minute, and she carried the ball 10-15 yards to just outside of the center right of the 18 before ripping her shot into the top right corner.

Adelphi, a 2022 NCAA Tournament participant, opened the second half strong though, scoring twice in the opening 16:20.

Holy Family pushed for an equalizer, registering six attempts in the final 17:13. Jessica Levush (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) first forced a save, before a flurry of shots by Levush, Hooten and Stephanie Marino (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) missed 38 seconds apart in the 83rd and 84th minutes.

The Tigers' final chance came when Marino was denied 2:12 ahead of the final whistle.

Both teams had four attempts on net, with the Panthers holding a slight 3-4 edge in corner kicks.

Hooten led all players with three shots.

Holy Family survived an early push from Adelphi, who hit the crossbar and forced a Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) save in the opening 9:47.

The Panthers did not threaten frame for the remainder of the opening 45 though, and Preuhs made her only other save 2:42 into the second half.

Bella Scurci (Selbyville, Del./Indian River) was then denied making 0-2 just under four minutes later.
