LAKEWOOD, N.J. –
Tajhay Williams (Yallahs, Jamaica/Clarendon College) had a goal and an assist as the HFU men's soccer team picked up its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of 2023 with a 2-1 win at Georgian Court on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers fell 13 seconds short of their second shutout of the season.
Gavin Rowan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) found Williams just outside the top left of the 18 in the seventh minute, and the junior turned and curled his left footed shot into the bottom right corner with pace.
He then nearly made it a brace in the 55th minute, only to be denied by the post, but the rebound found its way to
Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington) for a 2-0 score-line.
Williams produced a match-high five attempts on the afternoon as he became the fourth Tiger to score multiple times on the year. His assist was his first of the season.
Touey later became the fifth Tiger with multiple goals, while Rowan moved into second on HFU with three assists on the year, one behind
Sergio Revuelta's (Valladolid, Spain/IES Alejandria) team lead.
Luke Shank (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) made five of his six saves in the second half, including three in the final 9:05 as GCU pushed to cut into the deficit.
The junior's 13th career victory moves him into third in program history.
Holy Family's early pressure paid off as the Tigers had four attempts in a three and a minute half span leading up to Williams' goal. Williams forced the first stop 4:08 in, before
Deshawn Bernard (Portmore, Jamaica/Wolmer's Boys School) had a shot blocked and Revuelta had another saved a minute prior to the score.
Lautaro Berisso (La Plata, Argentina/) and
Thiago Lage (Minas Gerais, Brazil/Abington) also saw attempts on frame turned away before Shank made his lone first half stop in the 37th minute, as HFU held a 5-1 edge in shots on target in the opening 45 minutes.
Shank later preserved the lead with a save two minutes prior to the Tigers making it 2-0.
