PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University men's soccer team fought until the end, equalizing at 1-1 and cutting a 1-5 deficit to two in an eventual 3-5 loss to regionally-ranked Queens on Wednesday night at Tiger Field.
Both teams scored from a corner in the first 8:31, with
Hunter Bell (Delran, N.J./Life Center Academy) canceling out the Knights' opener that came just 2:39 in.
Unmarked at the back post, the junior volleyed home
Sergio Revuelta's (Valladolid, Spain/IES Alejandria) corner for his first career collegiate goal.
Queens would take a 1-4 lead into halftime though, before going up four just 2:26 into the second.
It was Revuelta playing a part in getting HFU back in it as it was his lobbed through ball that played in
Tajhay Williams (Yallahs, Jamaica/Clarendon College) one-on-one with the goalie in the 58th minute.
Williams chipped the keeper for his first goal with the Tigers, and for the team-leading fourth assist for Revuelta on the season.
Holy Family pushed for more, outshooting the Knights 11-7 in the second half and 19-14 on the night, and the Tigers finally broke through again in the 83rd minute.
Kerin St. Clair Jr. (Union, N.J./Union) was in the right spot to tap in a rebound from
Sean McKenna's (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) long attempt, tying him for the team lead with three goals and giving McKenna his first career collegiate assist.
In addition to outshooting Queens, HFU also had nearly double the amount of corners, 9-5, but the Tigers could not overcome the first half barrage.
Joey Phillips (Levittown, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) notably made his collegiate debut on the night, making a save in eight minutes of relief in net.
Jarrett Lalli (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also made his collegiate debut, while
John Michael Phelan (Milwaukee, Wis./Kettle Moraine) made his HFU debut.
