Shania Le Maitre (Champs Fleurs, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name Convent) has been named the 2023 Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySIDA) Academic All-Area Women's Track & Field Performer of the Year.
The award is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 intuitions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, a student-athlete must be in his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.
Le Maitre's 2022-23 campaign saw her win a total of five gold medals, including three at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships (800m, 4x400m relay and DMR) to play a part in 30 points as HFU repeated as champion.
She then won two more at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, in the 800m and 4x400m relay, to go along with a silver in the 1500m for a total of 28 points as the Tigers matched a program record with a second-place finish.
Le Maitre set NCAA outdoor provisionals in both the 800m and as a member of the 4x4000m relay team, and she was a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honoree for both the indoor and outdoor season.
Academically, the Champ Fleurs, Trinidad & Tobago native earned Dean's List Honors in each of her eight semesters en route to receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Biology this spring.
