Nishorn Pierre (Grenada/Jamaica College) has been named the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Field Athlete of the Year, while the HFU women received the 2023 CACC Women's Track & Field Team Sportsmanship Award.
Both awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
Pierre won a total of 26 points at the CACC Championship as he won gold in both the high jump and triple jump, while capturing bronze in the long jump. He finished the season in the top five of the league in all three of those events, including first in the high jump (NCAA provisional 2.10m) and second in the triple jump (14.60m).
Additionally, 13 other Tigers joined Pierre in earning All-CACC recognition.
The top two finishers in each of the 20 events at the CACC Championship are named to the All-Conference team, with the victor earning First Team honors and the runner-up receiving Second Team status.
Kenisha Greenwood (Jamaica) and
Ariel Salkey (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) highlighted the other honorees, with a total of four All-CACC accolades each. In addition to Greenwood winning gold in the 400 Meter Hurdles and Salkey doing so in the 100 Meters, both were a part of the winning 4x100 Meter and 4x400 Meter Relay teams. Greenwood also placed second in the 100 Meters, while Salkey crossed second in the 200 Meters.
Shania Le Maitre (Champs Fleurs, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name Convent) joined Pierre with three All-CACC nominations for first place finishes in the 800 Meters and 4x400 Meter Relay and a second place finish in the 1500 Meters.
Kouto Anyika (Philadelphia, Pa./Pennwood) won gold in both the 400 Meters and 4x400 Meter Relay, while other Tigers to receive multiple All-CACC honors included
Terrence Jones (East Orange, N.J./William Allen/LCTI) (110 Meter Hurdles and 400 Meter Hurdles) and
Shanell Pusey (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Matanzas) (100 Meter Hurdles and 400 Meter Hurdles).
