BENSALEM, Pa. – The Holy Family University softball team cut a four-run game one deficit to one, before eventually falling to No. 25 Wilmington 4-6 at Bensalem High School on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wildcats would go on to take the nightcap 5-14.
Individual Highlights
- Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) reached base twice and scored in both games, finishing the day 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI
- Angelina Bresnen (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) joined Miller in reaching twice and scoring in the opener, while Lauren Hagy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) had two hits in game two
- Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) both homered in game one, with Hobel adding an RBI single in the nightcap
- Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) threw 3.1 innings of no-hit ball in the opener, eventually finishing with a final line of four earned runs allowed over six-plus frames
How it Happened
Game One
- Trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, Holy Family made a push beginning with a Bresnen single
- Ciasullo followed with her home run to halve the deficit, and singles by Miller (one out) and Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) (two outs) got the Tigers within one
- Wilmington would take advantage of two errors to plate two unearned runs in the seventh though, which proved important when Hobel homered in the bottom-half and HFU could not pressure further
- Neither team threatened until WU strung together five hits in the fourth, the final four of which were with two outs, en route to opening the scoring with two runs
- Tidaback stranded runners on second and third with no away in the fifth, but the Wildcats doubled their lead in the sixth after opening the frame with a leadoff walk and single
- This came after the Tigers had left a runner on second in both the fourth and fifth
Game Two
- Wilmington scored seven in first, four of which were unearned, and five more in the third en route to leading throughout
