Softball Continues Spring Break Trip

The HFU softball team continued play down in Florida against Upper Iowa and Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday.

Upper Iowa (3-11 Loss)
Holy Family led for a fourth time in five games as the first four Tigers to come to the plate in the top of the first reached.

Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) led off with a base on balls and after a Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) single, Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) walked to load the bases for Emma Clayborne (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), who drove in two with a single.

Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) manufactured a third run for HFU in the second with a one-out single and stolen base. She then advanced to third on a Grubb single before scoring on Jones' sacrifice for a 3-0 advantage.

Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) held UIU scoreless through 2.2 innings, but the Peacocks would break out for six two-out runs in the third.

Upper Iowa added a run in the fifth and after the Tigers stranded the bases loaded in the sixth, the Peacocks ended the contest in the bottom-half.

Grubb added a single in the sixth to reach base for a third time.

Jones also had two hits, while Hobel finished a perfect 1-for-1 with a walk.

Saginaw Valley State (0-6 Loss)
Saginaw opened the scoring in the top of the first following a leadoff walk and led throughout, despite the score remaining 0-1 through three and 0-2 through five.

Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) recorded her first career quality start, surrendering just three earned on six hits in a career-high six innings.

Holy Family threatened with runners reaching scoring position in both the sixth and seventh but could never push a run across.
