CALDWELL, N.J. – The HFU softball team cut a five-run deficit to two with a three-run sixth in game one, but Caldwell would hold on for a 3-6 win before defeating the Tigers 0-8 in the nightcap.
Individual Highlights
- Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) pitched four scoreless innings of relief in game one, allowing HFU the opportunity to come back
- Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) drove in two with a two-run homer in the three-run sixth
- Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) had a hit in both games
How it Happened
Game One
- After Holy Family stranded a runner in scoring position in the first, Caldwell came through with a two-out RBI double in the bottom-half en route to leading throughout
- The Cougars would then add four more in second for an early 0-5 edge
- Miller entered in the third and proceeded to throw the four shutout frames
- HFU finally got the bats going with three hits in the sixth, as Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) led off with a double and Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) got the Tigers on the board with an RBI single
- Holy Family could not capture further momentum following Ciasullo's home run though, despite Letzia singling in the seventh
Game Two
- Caldwell scored once in each of the second through fifth innings before breaking out for four in the sixth
