Women’s Basketball Defeats Felician 71-62 in CACC Tournament Quarterfinal

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team defeated Felician 71-62 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Quarterfinal matchup inside of the Campus Center on Tuesday evening.

With the win the Tigers advance to the CACC Tournament Semifinals hosted by Jefferson, where they will take on North Division champion Post at 2 p.m. on Saturday. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) posted the game's second highest point total, 18, by making 12-of-14 free throws, while adding five rebounds and a team-high four assists
  • Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also had four assists and a team-best two steals, while finishing second on HFU with 13 points and nine rebounds
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) tied a game-high with 10 boards, to go along with eight points
  • Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) made it three Tigers in double-figures with 11
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) contributed eight points and six rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench

  • Holy Family set a season-best by going 28-of-36 from the line for its most makes since it had 30 in a win at USciences on Dec. 5, 2015
  • The Tigers outrebounded the Golden Falcons 48-33, held a 26-2 edge in fastbreak points and had more than double the amount of assists, 15-7f
 
How it Happened 
First Quarter
  • The entirety of the first quarter was played within a single possession with five lead changes, the final of which was a triple that put Felician on top 7-9
Second Quarter
  • Holy Family scored 10 of the first 11 points of the second, with two Prevost free throws 1:03 in putting the Tigers ahead for good
  • Two Hinkle baskets sandwiched a Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) jumper to cap eight unanswered, the second of which established the first three-possession cushion, 17-10, with 7:01 on the clock
  • The two teams exchanged points until Morrow scored five in a row, with her layup putting HFU onto top by double-digits, 24-14, with 4:05 left
  • The Golden Falcons cut the deficit to five, 22-27, with eight of the next 11 points, but the Tigers responded with a 6-1 surge to close the half for a 33-23 halftime advantage
Third Quarter
  • After Moore opened the fourth with a step-back for a 35-23 cushion, Felician tallied five in a row and the lead seesawed between six and 10 for the remainder of the period
  • The Golden Falcons would beat the buzzer to make it a six-point contest, 44-38, entering the fourth
Fourth Quarter
  • Holy Family again started a quarter strong, this time scoring seven straight for the first of two game-high 13-point advantages, 51-38, when Moore made a layup with 8:09 to go 
  • A Searfoss jumper 1:20 later also put the Tigers ahead 13, 53-40
  • Felician chipped away to within five with 5:02 to play after eight unanswered, but the Golden Falcons could never make it a single possession game
  • Moore replied with a floater and after Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) collected the offensive rebound on a missed foul shot, Morrow hit two free throws for a four-point possession
  • Moore then hit two more foul shots to re-establish a double-digit cushion, 59-48, with just 4:26 left
  • Felician got as close as five, 61-56, one more time with 1:24 showing, but Kokolus countered with a layup and Searfoss iced the game by making 7-of-8 foul shot over the final 1:05
