PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team ended 2023 with a 12th straight win, defeating Lincoln 66-62 inside of the Campus Center on Sunday afternoon.
Individual Highlights
- Carly Bolivar (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka (Alliance)) led all players with four assists, while pacing HFU with eight rebounds
- Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) topped three Tigers in double-figures with 16 points, highlighted by making all eight of her free throw attempts
- Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) scored 11 points, making 3-of-4 3-pointers, and Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added 10 with two triples herself
- Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) contributed eight points, with Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) totaling six apiece

- Lincoln made more field goals, 20-22, but HFU held edges in 3-pointers (8-5) and foul shots (18-13)

How it Happened
First Quarter
- Lincoln jumped out to a 5-10 lead three and half minutes into play, but HFU closed the first quarter on a 13-0 run over the final 6:05, with two Bolivar free throws putting the Tigers ahead 18-10
Second Quarter
- Holy Family would then tally the first five points of the second, completing an 18-0 stretch on a Morrow 3-pointer 1:18 in
- The Tigers held LU scoreless for 8:57 of game time, although the Lions did get back within single digits after five unanswered
- Lincoln got within eight, 28-20, a second time on two foul shots 3:04 ahead of the break, and the two teams would exchange points until Hinkle beat the buzzer for a 35-24 cushion entering the locker room
Third Quarter
- After LU opened the third quarter scoring, the lead remained bewteen two or three possessions until a Lions foul shots brought them within three, 44-41, and then two, 44-42, at the respective 3:25 and 2:59 marks
- Hinkle made four consecutive free throws through, beginning a 12-1 flurry over the final 2:38 that featured two Riepe triples and ended with two final Hinkle foul shots putting HFU on top 56-43
Fourth Quarter
- Tretter opened the fourth with a layup for the largest advantage of the afternoon, 58-43, but LU slowly worked its way back into it with eight straight points
- That began a 4-15 surge that brought the Lions as close as 62-58 with just 3:22 remaining
- Holy Family's defense stepped up to hold Lincoln scoreless for the next 2:47 though, and the Tigers iced the contest by making four free throws in the final minute
