EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – In a fourth quarter played within a single possession,
Ava Morrow's (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) jumper in the paint with 1:37 to go turned out to be the final scoring as the HFU women's basketball team survived an East Stroudsburg 3-pointer in the final second for a 47-45 triumph on Sunday afternoon.
The victory was HFU's ninth straight, the first time the Tigers have accomplished that since December and January of the 2013-14 season.
Individual Highlights
- Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) and Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) both recorded double-doubles
- Prevost led all players with a career-high 13 boards and two blocks and added 11 points for her second double-double of the year
- Hinkle paced HFU with 13 points and also set a career-best in rebounds with 12 for her third double-double in four games
- Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) made it three Tigers in double-figures with 11 points, while leading the team with two assists and two steals

How it Happened
First Quarter
- Holy Family jumped out to a 7-3 advantage on a Hinkle layup 3:36 in, after Prevost had scored the first five Tiger points
- East Stroudsburg closed the period on a 2-9 surge over the final 5:19 though, taking a 9-12 cushion into the second
Second Quarter
- The Warriors led by seven, 10-17, following a 3-pointer 1:15 in, but HFU pulled within two, 15-17, on a Hinkle three-point play at the 7:17 mark and later on a triple by Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood), 18-20, with 2:34 showing
- The Warriors responded with six in a row though, taking a game-high eight-point advantage, 18-26, on a 3-pointer 1:20 ahead of the break
- Searfoss cut the deficit to six with a layup to begin the final minute
Third Quarter
- East Stroudsburg also went up by eight following the first basket of the second half, but the Tigers began to chip away with the next four points
- That began a 12-3 run that ended with Meredith's driving layup with 4:25 on the clock giving HFU its first lead, 32-31, since the first quarter
- The two teams exchanged baskets the remainder of the period, with Prevost putting the Tigers on top 38-37 entering the fourth
Fourth Quarter
- Holy Family held the largest fourth quarter advantage of three when Prevost opened the period with a turnaround jumper 20 seconds in
- From that point on there were four lead changes and three ties, the final of which came at 45-45 on two ESU free throws with 2:32 remaining
- After Morrow's game-winner 55 seconds later, the Tigers need to make only two stops thanks to two offensive rebounds by Hinkle
