PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University volleyball team prevailed in five sets in its road finale at Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers comfortably took the first and third sets, 25-17 and 25-21, nearly pulling off the sweep if not for the Bears closing out the third (24-26) on a 1-4 surge.
Bloomfield then won the fourth set, 18-25, to set up the fifth.
HFU took the first multi-point advantage of the fifth, 6-4, on an
Ava Kidd (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle (Saint Anselm)) kill and BCB error, eventually leading the reset of the way despite the Bears getting as close as one eight times.
That included the two teams trading the final eight points, with a
Sam Swenby (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen (Loch Haven)) kill giving the Tigers their first match point at 14-12.
After Bloomfield staved off the first, another Bears error sealed the Holy Family victory.
Individual Highlights
- Kidd fell one kill shy of a match high with 14 kills, while leading the Tigers with three blocks
- Swenby and Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) both finished with a career-best 13 kills, with Swenby posting a match-high .480 hitting percentage
- Morgan Steck (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) had 16 more assists than player as she finished with 41
- Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) paced HFU with 15 digs and three aces
- Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) made it four Tigers with double-digit kills as she registered 10, while adding 10 digs for seventh double-double of the year
- Keira Rogan (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) finished one dig behind Boylan
Inside the Box Score
- Holy Family had 11 more kills, 60-49, and outhit Bloomfield .232-.123, but the Bears stayed in the match with advantages in aces, blocks and digs
