Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Two Early Goals Down Women’s Soccer as HFU’s Second Half Push Falls Short in 1-2 Loss to CACC Leader Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA – Two goals in the opening 7:26 ultimately proved to be too tall of a deficit to fight back from despite a second half push, as the HFU women's soccer team fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) leader Jefferson, 1-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Despite the result, fourth-seeded HFU will host fifth-seeded Dominican in a CACC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Rams scored from a corner kick on the first attempt of the game just 2:35 in, before making it 0-2 in the eighth minute.

Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made her first save in the 10th minute, and HFU would go on to outshoot Jefferson 7-2 over the final half of the opening period beginning with Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) first testing the Rams' keeper in the 23rd.

A blocked Hooten attempt then led to Maura Kilkenny (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower) firing on net in the 28th, and the Tigers had another flurry of shots in the 40th, ending with Brynn Hess (Benton, Pa./Benton) forcing a stop.

Ava Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) perhaps had the best chance of the first half for Holy Family, missing just high in the 42nd.

Preuhs kept HFU in the match with her third save 6:43 into the second, and the Tigers cut into the deficit when Abbie D'Ambra (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) controlled Allison Loper's (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) cross and fired home her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute.

The assist was Loper's team-leading fourth of the year.

Al. Hooten had a shot blocked a minute and a half later, but Holy Family could not threaten Jefferson's frame again until Kilkenny's long-range effort in the 75th.

Al. Hooten had yet another attempt blocked in the 80th, before the Tigers' final shot on net came in the form of a long-range effort by Rebecca Casper (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) 7:45 ahead of the final whistle.

Al. Hooten had more than double the amount of attempts as any other player with five, as HFU outshot the Rams 14-10.
