PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's soccer program's streak of qualifying for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament reached a quarter-century after HFU celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 victory over Post on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Prior to the match, Holy Family honored its senior class of
Maura Kilkenny (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower),
Mel Prinos (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and
Sarah Szychulski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), as well as fifth-years
Gianna Penecale (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland),
Stephanie Marino (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and
Hannah Florentino (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy).
It was Kilkenny who played a part in setting up the game-winner as she and
Grace Joyce (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) assisted
Brynn Hess' (Benton, Pa./Benton) strike from the top of the box with 9:23 remaining.
The assist was the first of Joyce's career.
That culminated a performance in which Holy Family outshot the Eagles 28-10, including 14-3 on net. The Tigers also held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Hess played a part in HFU's first goal as well, setting up
Maddie Maguire's (Sewell, N.J./Nazareth Academy (Rider)) long-range effort from the outside of the right-side of the 18 in the 36th minute.
Hess was all over, leading all players with seven attempts, six of which were on goal.
Allison Loper (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) added six shots, as the duo combined for more than the entire Post team.
The Eagles battled though, tying the score at 1-1 just 35 seconds into the second half.
They also fired on frame in the 68th, but
Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made her second save of the afternoon to help eventually set up the Tigers' victory.
