PHILADELPHIA – An own goal with 6:36 remaining spoiled HFU men's soccer from earning a point against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) leader Post in a 0-1 loss at Tiger Field on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the match, Holy Family honored its senior class of
Brendan McCarthy (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge),
Ronaldo Pickering (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington Township),
Lautaro Berisso (La Plata, Argentina/),
Anthony Ciceron-Elie (Montreal, Canada),
Christian Hernandez (Burlington City, N.J./Life Center Academy),
Angel Lavastida (Naples, Fla./Palmetto Ridge) and
Joseph Amabile (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South).
The Tigers also recognized fifth-years
Eric Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) and
Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington).
Despite Post's pressure,
Cheikh Diouf (Dakar, Senegal/MLK) was forced to make just one save in the opening 64 minutes, which came 4:36 in as an Eagles header was also cleared off the line by a defender in the 23rd.
Holy Family grew into the game in the second, with
Deshawn Bernard (Portmore, Jamaica/Wolmer's Boys School) shooting high and
Thiago Lage (Minas Gerais, Brazil/Abington) forcing a stop minutes apart in the 53rd and 55th.
Lage was also denied in the 66th, after Diouf has made his second save in the minute prior.
The own goal then came on just the fourth attempt on the Tigers' net.
Holy Family pushed to equalize, but
Tajhay Williams' (Yallahs, Jamaica/Clarendon College) shot was stopped with just under a minute and a half left.
