LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. –
Maura Kilkenny's (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower) long-range effort three minutes into the match turned out to be the difference in HFU women's soccer's 1-0 triumph, the Tigers' second straight win, at Chestnut Hill on Monday night.
Kilkenny gathered the ball from over 40 yards out, took one touch and fired her shot into the top left corner.
Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and the defense took over from there, limiting CHC to just three attempts on targets, with saves coming in the 11th, 63rd and 76th minutes.
The Griffins headed wide in the penultimate minute, and Holy Family defended a corner in the final seconds to preserve the victory.
The shutout was the Tigers' third of the year.
The matchup was even, with HFU holding slight advantages in shots (10-9) and attempts on target (5-3).
Brynn Hess (Benton, Pa./Benton) led all players with three shots, including forcing a save in the eighth minute and hitting the post in the 37th.
Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) was also denied from making it 2-0 in the 62nd, and
Allison Loper (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) had her header stopped just over four minutes prior to the final whistle.
