PHILADELPHIA – After winning the first two sets, the Holy Family University volleyball team found itself down 8-13 to Wilmington in the fifth.
The Tigers responded with five unanswered, and after staving off three match points, HFU converted its fourth to prevail 21-19 in a crucial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Tuesday night in the Campus Center.
It was
Sam Swenby (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen (Loch Haven)) who sparked the fifth set comeback, tallying three consecutive kills to bring Holy Family with 12-13.
A
Jayden Bralts (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) kill tied it at 13, but Wilmington answered for its first match point at 13-14.
Again it was Swenby coming through with a kill, and she then teamed with
Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) for the Tigers' first match point.
A Yanief kill gave the Tigers another match point at 16-15, but the Wildcats scored three of the next four points for two more match points at 16-17 and 17-18.
Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) kills repelled both, and
Ava Kidd (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle (Saint Anselm)) kills gave HFU its final two match points at 19-18 and 20-19, which the Tigers finally converted on a WilmU error.
