Two 19th Minute Goals Lift Women’s Soccer to Win Over Dominican

PHILADELPHIA – Two goals just 22 seconds apart in the 19th minute lifted the HFU women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Dominican at a rainy Tiger Field on Saturday afternoon.

Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and Allison Loper (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) both took advantage of defensive giveaways to strike unassisted, with Hooten first opening the scoring with a low strike to the bottom right corner from just outside the right side of the top right of 18.

Loper then curled her shot into the top right corner from outside the left side of the 18 seconds later.

Hooten extended her team lead in goals to six, while Loper became the third Tiger with multiple goals on the season.

Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made three saves in the win, including two crucial ones just under a minute apart in the 56th and 57th to preserve the 2-0 lead.

The Chargers cut the deficit to 2-1 from a corner kick in the 58th but could never equalize, thanks in large part to a goal line clearance in the 78th on their only attempt on target in the final 32:48.

Holy Family held a 17-12 advantage in shots, including registering four of the final five of the contest as Loper and Maura Kilkenny (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower) were both denied from making it 3-1.

Kilkenny led all players with five attempts, including the Tigers' first two of the afternoon.

Holy Family scored on its first two shots on net, after Preuhs made her only first half stop 4:21 into the action.

Hooten had the first attempt on target in the second half as she was rebuffed from making it 3-0 just 5:41 out of the break.
