Kilkenny’s Header Cancelled Out By Late Goldey-Beacom Goal in 1-1 Draw

PHILADELPHIA – Maura Kilkenny's (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower) 78th minute header looked to be the game-winner, but Goldey-Beacom equalized just under four minutes later in a 1-1 draw at Tiger Field on Tuesday night.

Kilkenny out-jumped everyone to Allison Loper's (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) corner for her first goal of the season, moving Loper into a tie for the team lead with two assists.

The Lightning would strike from long distance though, and despite shots from Brynn Hess (Benton, Pa./Benton) and Lexi Murphy (Woolwich Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional (Saint Francis U)) down the stretch HFU would have to settle for a point.

Hess applied pressure all night, registering more than double the amount of attempts as any other player with nine.

Holy Family outshot GBC 25-14 but had just one more attempt on net, 7-6.

Hess outshot the Lightning 6-4 in the first half herself, having two attempts saved and another hit the cross bar in the 16th minute.

It was Loper opening the pressure with a shot on net 3:52 in, and Kilkenny and Murphy also worked the keeper prior the break.

All four of Goldey-Beacom's first half attempts were on target, when Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made four of her five saves.

Both teams had just two shots on target in the second half, coming less than one and a half minutes apart as Izzy Mignon (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) was denied in the 51st minute.
