Defense Leads Women’s Basketball to Sixth Straight Win; 56-45 Over Felician

PHILADELPHIA – The HFU women's basketball team forced 22 turnovers and held Felician to 21.7 percent shooting in a 56-45 victory over the Golden Falcons at the Campus Center on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) led all players with 14 points, nine rebounds, a season-high six steals and four assists
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) was second on the Tigers with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting and seven boards in just 12 minutes
  • Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) was third on Holy Family with six points and six rebounds
  • Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) also had six points, to go along with five boards, while Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) tied a career-best with four steals
 
Inside the Box Score
  • The 21.7 field goal percentage was the lowest by an HFU opponent since USciences shot 21.1 percent on March 6, 2015
  • The Tigers outrebounded the Golden Falcons 48-39 and held major edges in points in the paint (28-18) and points off turnovers (20-11)
 
How it Happened 
First Quarter
  • Holy Family answered an opening 3-pointer by Felician, the only time it trailed, with the next nine points, four of which were came from Searfoss before Moe Moore's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) free throw made the score 9-3 3:35 in
  • The Golden Falcons, who did not score for over three minutes following their opening basket, responded with the next five, and the two teams exchanged points en route to a 14-12 HFU lead after 10 minutes of play
Second Quarter
  • The two teams also exchanged the opening baskets of the second period, before five straight Tigers points established the first two-possession advantage, 21-14, on a Searfoss foul shot 4:13 ahead of the break
  • Felician momentarily got within four on a 3-pointer, but Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) hit a triple herself to begin a half-ending 8-2 run
  • Anujin Dashdorj (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) made three free throws over the final 46 seconds to give HFU two double-digit leads, the second of which came at 29-19 entering the locker room 
Second Half
  • Holy Family then scored the first 10 points out of the locker room, eight of which were by Prevost, as the Tigers led by double-digits the rest of the way after holding the Golden Falcons scoreless for the first 4:27
  • The lead reached as high as 21, 42-21, when Tretter nailed a trifecta with 3:18 left on the third quarter clock
