BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Despite double-doubles from
Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) and
Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan), the HFU men's basketball team was defeated at Bridgeport, 81-98, on Saturday afternoon.
Individual Highlights
- Mixson's double-double was the third of his career, and his second in the last three games, as he led all players with career-highs of 13 rebounds and 10 assists
- Esposito's double-double was his fourth of the season, as he scored a season-best 19 points while adding 12 boards
- Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) scored a career-high 13 on 2-of-3 field goals, 2-of-2 3-pointers and 7-of-10 free throws
- Josh Thomas (Queens, N.Y./Hodgson Vo-Tech (Cecil College)) matched a season-best with seven points
- Malik Archer (Philadelphia, Pa./Mathematics,Civics & Science Charter School (Beaver County CC)) scored 19 too, the game's second-highest total, while Aamir Hurst (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti) was also in double-figures with 14
- Evan Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) notably scored his first two collegiate points

How it Happened
First Half
- Holy Family scored the first eight points, capped by Archer's four-point play just 2:46 in
- Bridgeport quickly came back with the next 10 points as there would feature four ties and three lead changes, before the Purple Knights went ahead for good on a jumper to make the score 17-19 at the 12:15 mark
- The Tigers got as close as one, 23-24, on an Archer 3-pointer with 9:29 showing, and it was still a one-possession score-line, 26-28, on his three-point 35 seconds after
- Bridgeport would begin to pull away with the subsequent 10 points though, establishing a double-digit cushion that would remain outside of another Archer trifecta bringing the scoreboard to 29-38 5:25 ahead of the half
- A Purple Knights 3-pointer capped a 6-22 run for a first-half-high 32-50 advantage, before Hurst ended the opening period with a triple of his own
Second Half
- Bridgeport would come out of the locker room the first seven points, and HFU could never get close than 15
