Women’s Basketball’s Win Streak Ends with Loss to Nationally-Ranked Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team's eight game winning streak, its longest since the 2015-16 season, came to an end with a 50-65 loss to No. 12 Jefferson on Tuesday evening at the Campus Center.

Individual Highlights
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) tied a game-highs with 16 points and a season-best three blocks
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) was the only other Tiger in double-figures with 11 points, to along with team-highs of eight rebounds, six assists and three steals
  • Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) also had six assists, a career-best, and three steals
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) contributed nine points off the bench, while Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) tallied a season-high six

Inside the Box Score
  • Hinkle and Hayes helped HFU's bench outscore Jefferson's 15-8, and the Tigers had two more assists, 17-15, but the Rams controlled inside with major edges in points in the paint (26-46), rebounds (33-47) and second-chance points (2-16)

How it Happened
First Quarter
  • Holy Family did not trail in the first as it scored the first four points for the first of three four-point leads, the final of which came at 12-8 on Searfoss' driving layup with 2:15 left
  • Jefferson would close the period with a free throw to bring the scoreboard to 12-9
Second Quarter
  • The Rams then scored the first six points of the second to take the lead for good with 8:52 showing
  • Searfoss' jumper 41 seconds later got HFU as close as one, 14-15, but again Jefferson scored seven in a row to cap a 2-14 stretch for a 14-22 advantage midway through the quarter
  • Hinkle scored five points in a 7-2 surge that got the Tigers within three, 21-24, 2:29 ahead of the break, but the Rams close the scoring with a layup for a five-point cushion entering the locker room
Third Quarter
  • Like the second period, Jefferson scored the first six points to establish the first double-digit advantage, 21-32, 1:54 out of halftime
  • After the Rams answered a Tretter triple with a basket for another double-digit cushion, 24-34, Prevost scored four of the eight unanswered to get HFU all the way back within two, 32-34, at the 3:27 mark
  • A Searfoss jumper also did so at 34-36 58 seconds after, but five straight Jefferson points helped the Rams take a 35-41 lead into the fourth
Fourth Quarter
  • Prevost opened the fourth with a layup and after four consecutive Jefferson points, a Hayes 3-pointer and Tretter jumper made it a single-possession contest, 42-45, with 8:12 to go
  • That was as close as Holy Family could get, as the Rams tallied six in a row to take a three-possession lead for good
  • Twice the Tigers got within seven, on a Hinkle jumper at the 5:25 mark and a Prevost three-point play with 3:44 remaining
