PHILADELPHIA – In a match that featured four tightly contested sets, the HFU volleyball team bounced back from dropping the first to defeat Bridgeport in four (22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.
Individual Highlights
- Morgan Steck (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) set new career-highs with a match-best 46 assists and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season
- Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led all players with a season-high 20 kills on .310 hitting, while Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) was also in double-figures with 12, one shy of a season-best
- Zoe Krause (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) set a new season-high with eight kills on a team-best .389 hitting
- Isabella Mosquera's (West Chicago, Ill./Saint Charles East) six blocks were double the amount of any other player and one shy of a season-high
- Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led three Tigers in double-figures for digs with a match-best 21, with Mainerys Munoz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) adding a season-high 12
- Kyla Sayson (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Institute of Technology) posted a new season-best in aces for the second match in a row with a team-high four
Inside the Box
- Holy Family set new season-bests with 52 assists, 14 block assists and nine total blocks, while the Tigers' 52 kills were one shy of a season-high
- HFU's 72 digs and 10 aces were both its second-most of the year
- The Tigers tripled the amount of blocks of Bridgeport, while recording 13 more digs and outhitting the Purple Knights .222-138
How it Happened
First Set
- Holy Family recovered from an early 0-3 deficit to lead by as many as three, 15-12, when Mosquera and Steck combined for a block to cap an 8-3 run
- UB came right back with five straight though, and despite the Tigers tying the score at 17 with the next two points, the Purple Knights tallied four unanswered to complete a 9-2 surge
- HFU staved off the first four set-points before Bridgeport finally converted
Second Set
- Holy Family used an early 6-1 flurry to establish a 6-3 advantage that would never get closer than two
- Bridgeport got within two for first time since 4-6 at 19-21, but a Kinzer kill sparked a set-ending 4-1 surge
Third Set
- In a set that featured 13 ties and six lead changes, Kinzer broke the final deadlock with a kill to make the score 22-21, before Osenkarski and Hartney combined for a block
- The Purple Knights pulled back within one, but this time it was a Hartney kill that gave the Tigers set point, which they converted on an error
Fourth Set
- Trailing 16-13, Hartney played a part in three points of a 5-0 stretch that established an 18-16 advantage
- Bridgeport was able to tie the score with the next two points, but this time it back-to-back Mosquera kills sparking four unanswered
- The Purple Knights staved off the first three match points before Kinzer finally secured the victory with a kill
