Pudlo’s Late Penalty Save Secures Draw for Women’s Soccer in Home-Opener

PHILADELPHIA – With the score tied at 0-0 in the 79 minute, Brianna Pudlo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) saved a penalty to secure what would eventually turn out to be a draw in the HFU women's soccer team's home-opener against New Haven on Wednesday evening at Tiger Field.

The graduate student dove to her left to stop the penalty from slotting into the corner, and she would then proceed to save two more attempts over the next three-plus minutes to keep the match deadlocked.

The action was part of a stretch in which New Haven had the match's final seven shots while up a woman.

This came after HFU had nine of the first 11 attempts of the second period.

Inside the Box Score
  • Pudlo stopped all six shots she faced in her first shutout of the season
  • The two teams were nearly even in attempts in the second half, 10-9
  • Gianna Monaco (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) tied a match-high with three shots apiece, with Hooten registering one of HFU's two attempts on goal
  • Both of the Tigers' shots on goal came in the first half

  • New Haven had the final the final seven shots of the half, including a late flurry that forced a save by Pudlo and a follow-up block in the 43rd

Second Half
